The Temptation and Preaching of Jesus (Mark 1:12-15)

Bob SchultzBob Schultz, April 28, 2013
Part of the Gospel of Mark series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

We will study Mark 1:12-15 where the Bible speaks of the temptation of Jesus and the beginning of His public ministry. Mark, in his usual economy of words, does not get caught up in the details of the other gospel writers, yet there is profound and practical teaching in these verses regarding the life and ministry of Jesus. We learn about His power over Satan, proven in His victory in temptation. We also learn about the real nature of Jesus’ public ministry. To proclaim the gospel of God—repentance and faith, so that sinners would be forgiven.

Mark 1:12–15 (Listen)

12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.

14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
