Sent For This Purpose (Luke 4:42-44)

Part of the Sunday Messages series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

In the last three verses of Luke chapter 4 we will find one overarching concept Jesus was preoccupied with during His earthly ministry.

Jesus taught about this concept more than salvation, grace, neighborly love, about heaven and hell, or even more than the arrival of the Holy Spirit.

In fact, he teaches about this one concept more than all those combined. The centrality of preaching the 'Kingdom of God' was “the purpose” of His mission, which we will explore by answering these two questions: 1) What is the Kingdom of God? and 2) When is the Kingdom of God?

Luke 4:42–44 (Listen)

42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, 43 but he said to them, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” 44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
